Too Many Dustbins not Enough Contentment – Wednesday 21st October 1998

Too Many Dustbins not Enough Contentment

crossing a street
lined with dustbins
lined with strange people
with lives in a million pieces
scared of what will be
scared of the future
finding the me
the dustbins could be upturned
the rubbish could be scattered everywhere
we never seem to learn
the windows in the shops
they look permanently disused
the goods people sell
look permanently abused
the idea for the solution
only ever seems to be confused
people cross a busy road
it does not matter what the colour
we never seem to know when to go
in a road lined with dustbins
upturned and in disarray
the rubbish a snow on the pavement
despite mobile like smiles
i cannot believe they are content
