They Did Close the Door
they did close the door
as they have done before
but this time i think it was too much
i suspect, if i try the door
it will remain firmly shut
they did close the door
and they closed it on me
i wonder if it would make a difference
even if i had a key
but i think one thing is clear
in relation to that key
i do not think i have had one for years
certainly not one that belongs to me
they did close the door
friendship scattered into the wind
just in a single moment
years of life, love and laughter
suddenly redundant and unemployed
they did close the door
albeit, gently and without a slam
but closed nonetheless
and clearly,
without the soft tenderness
that might have saved me
and yes, i am sure that would have worked
and yes, they did close the door
but in doing so, opened up a room full of hurt
