It Is Not as Lighthearted as it Used to Be – Written February 2020 (Aged 44)

It Is Not as Lighthearted as it Used to Be

it is not as lighthearted as it used to be
i agree,
but then i am no longer twenty three
(thankfully)
not that it was all that bad,
but trying to sculpt
with no hands,
and trying to dance,
with limited feet,
whilst juggling with such poor sight
it always left me feeling incomplete
halfway to the meet,
left always to my own beat
living with sunstroke from my own heat
it is not as lighthearted as it used to be
i agree,
but then i am no longer thirty three
(thankfully)
no that it was all that bad,
but try being happy,
when all sadness does is bury you in the sand
as you lie there, dreaming of castles
but hiding away in foreign lands
