Something Precious In Our Younger Days – Written Sunday 3rd May (Aged 45)

Something Precious In Our Younger Days

there is something deeply precious in younger days
it wines and dines us but it cannot stay
i cannot tell you what it appeared to be
i have seen it though and i have seen it in me
there is something bold and reckless in our youth
it climbs tall mountains with little fear
it believes in truth and acts on impulse
because in youth we are far too young –
to comprehend a bad result
the spark, the hunger, there is no consequence approach
but when you are younger, it lasts all too briefly
it ups and leaves before you can recognise it
even before you can cling to it
something deeply precious that does not stay
then experience steps in and sends it on its way
there is something deeply previous in younger days
