We Are All Boats – Written Monday 3rd August 2020 (Aged 45)

We Are All Boats

we are all boats
and your boat is your well being
and life, well know that life is a sea
it is never always calm
and prone to storms
and your privilege or lack of it
is the sea you find yourself sailing on
we are all boats
what type of boat are you?
is your boat intact
does it have sails
or have sails broken and fallen flat?
are you a warship
a small dingy, a tugboat, or a barge
does the sea you find yourself on
feel overwhelming and just too large
and when you really think,
are you concerned your boat –
will take on water
and eventually it will sink
will the storm blow you off course
is your boat crewed by just one?
see, do you understand now,
we are all some kind of boat
imagine it, imagine that is your mental health
your wellbeing
your ability to sail and captain your boat
what type of boat are you
and tell me, are you able to keep afloat
