(A Little Bit) A Well I Cannot Wish Into – Written Tuesday 18th May 1999 (Aged 24)

(A Little Bit) A Well I Cannot Wish Into

i grieve for those around
the living, not the dead
i grieve for those who never smile
for those,
who never know how to feel
and those, who like me,
always do
but we never know if it is real
i have cried a well of tears
a well that i cannot wish into
i have a dead sea of tears
and so often it has kept me afloat
i have cried,
for the misplacement of my youth
i have cried for the shallowness
and the hollowness of it all
i grieve for those who give
and for those who are made to feel small
part of me has hope
there has to be a little bit of belief
no matter how naïve
but it can be so hard to believe
if only the future was free
