The Future Lies in the Past – Written May 1999 (Aged 24)

The Future Lies in the Past

the future lies in the past
it is gone,
but it is not forgotten
that is our path
that is our future
it lies deep in the past
as a race,
we have been lied to
we have deluded ourselves
we think are one thing
but in reality,
we are something else
the future’s secrets
lie amongst the tall grass
the grass,
that grows high in the past
will we take the path
the trail to find what has been lost
what is now no longer there
becomes a memory of something else
the future lies in the past
we have been warned
in ancient hands we are held
we always have,
long before we were born
the future may be bleak
and it may be happening
as we begin to speak
but there is still hope to be discovered
all is certainly not lost
it just waits to be uncovered
