Life Passing Us By? – Written Sunday 3rd August 2008 (Aged 33)

Life Passing Us By?

i do not think life passes you by
with good wine and company
and the feelings that grow inside
material possessions you may attain
but when the soul cries out for food
you know you cannot feed it on rain

i do not think life passes you by
with friends and family
and the feelings that grow inside
you can fill your life with material things
but the truth, your soul can no longer hide
you may present well to neighbours
but any street or cul-de-sac can lie

i do not think life passes you by
with good jokes and solid puns
and the laughter that grows inside
could i be told what they have done
storing up a closet of untold dreams
it was different when we were young
adulthood teaches that nothing is as it seems
