A Kiss in the Cold – Written Sunday 28th January 1996 (Aged 20)

A Kiss in the Cold

i feel old,
taking gifts from a stranger
getting a kiss in the cold
leaves me even stranger
i do not need snow on my face
and i do not need to freeze to death
just so i can catch your breath
what happened to all those standards
that i set myself,
did they melt away with everything else
or was i just someone else
with every new thing
you carry a little hope
and you know how to feel
you just hope that by the end of it
you are not so cynical
do not let it take hold,
there are things i need,
and then there are things i don’t
getting a kiss in the cold
is just one of them
