Big City Ambitions
bit city ambitions
small town feel
alley cat reality
longing to be real
seaside depression
looks like a down and out
november clings to the railing
and starts to shout
unemployment opens its stall
civil servants unrepentant
as the earth begins to fall
the lies that teachers teach
and children tell
school may be breaking up
but still they throw pennies –
into the wishing well
big top circus act
we are swimming out –
towards the horizon
desperate for fact
