Briefcase
the man with the briefcase
believes in what he carries
and with life’s boredom,
he constantly parries
the woman,
in the laura ahsley floral dress
has just left the shop
and it is a shame her life is a mess
but the bus driver does not stop
he just keeps going
he is fuelled up to the top
the man in the city bar
he traced the outline of his glass
since it was just past six
now his troubles have refused to pass
and he knows there is no alcoholic fix
the man with the briefcase
has boarded the train
all that money for a season ticket
and he is standing again
briefcase in hand,
home to the woman,
in the laura ashley floral dress
the son still out driving
a family striving for stability and respect
