Go Peacefully
watching you suffer
is the hardest
that suffering –
makes a grab for my heart
and it gives it a squeeze
then,
it throws it against my chest wall
and i know,
i cannot face the pain
when you finally leave
but this suffering, your suffering
is much worse
let you go,
and let you go peacefully
into whatever may await next
this vacant space
hastily caught breaths
it crushes our own hearts
which beat on tenterhooks in our chests
and every time i see you now
i cry a thousand tears
for times when things were offered
a cry for the past
and a future i know will not be
watching you suffer
someone, something help you go peacefully
