We Pretend So Hard
she is fragile
she is weak
her wasted
she struggles to speak
and we pretend,
oh,
we pretend,
we pretend that there –
is a future
and not just a past
we talk about things
we laugh
and we make plans
for the days ahead
days that we know to be few
we know,
the future is now bereft
and it feels as if the showreels
are nearly all ended
she will know deep inside
and what self recognition hide –
is plain to see
in our weary and sad laden eyes
