You Stole My Breath
i saw you –
romance my hope
you built my house
with beams and then with rope
you had me against the wall
with a smile –
tight around my throat
okay, let’s play catch then
and you can catch this joke
because i think i saw a bonfire
and we have just gone up in smoke
but you know,
deep inside –
you have not left
i guess i do keep on chasing
because you stole my breath
all these scars
and all these moments i collect
because i have spent some time now –
just pretending that i jest
and you know i have been here
just like all the rest
i saw you –
using words that sway
here we are again
sitting in my car on the driveway
