‘Cos I Know

i am soft at heart
‘cos i know
what it means to hurt
to be hurt
and to hurt others
i know my own cruelty
it lives side by side
with my compassion
but we are hybrids
life experience leaves us that way
and that is how we become fashioned

i have lost people
who only,
just about found me
and they never knew of my travels
‘cos i know,
what it means to hurt
to be hurt
and to hurt others
i have inflated my ego
with a selection box of lovers
yet, these days
i need you and no other
