Perfectly Knitted Smile
i remember the words said to me
now i watch,
a story unfold
and i know there is another story
yet to be told
is that how so many live their lives?
hidden away,
fearing the real person inside
a perfect picture in an awful frame
too many dice,
and not enough game
who is the real person –
behind the perfectly knitted smile?
the careless looks,
reflect on the freshly painted tiles
was it worth slipping away?
picking the part,
in a standard issue play
how awful it must be for childhood
to fuck it up so completely
the real person,
must shine like a sixpence
but then of course, so many hide away
and that is tragically, the difference
