Melody

you have children now
your hair is grey and quite long
you used to be the melody
to my more youthful song
you used to the hug –
that i always sought
but time has moved us on
and in its process we are always caught
you have children now
your hair is grey and quite long
i have no children yet
and my hair is almost gone
you used to be my favourite crush
and the bus journey i always wanted
the one for which i would always rush
you used to be hug –
the person i longed to hold
the comfortable rug –
that one day gets sold
you have children now –
your hair is grey and quite long
you used to be my melody
the one to my favourite song
how we all talk about the past –
as life pushes us along
