What Did I Know – Written Sunday 9th February 2020 (Aged 44)

What Did I Know

do we ever know people
are they merely,
the shapes and illusions
we make them out to be
people talk to me about my dad and it,
may as well be a stranger
and i have no pictures,
no history or memories,
of what went before
my personal history
is without definition
and that relationship with dad
feels like it did not have a purpose
could i have done more
i tried to talk,
and on occasion the barrier –
did partially lift
but a cleverer psychologist i needed
and i am not that gifted
no, i accept, i have accept –
what am i left with,
do we ever know people?
