Edge of Middle Age
i am just here
on the edge of middle age
no chapter heading (that is good)
just another page
as a younger thing
i like the idea of stages
but all ever found
was high backed mazes
i have watched friends
build their lives
as they see fit
when we were much younger
we went to a shop and chose the bricks
some of them,
looked for the shoes that always clicked
and the house that always fits
the salary that sustains,
but in the end only seems to drip
we have all lived with our choices
lived the inner voices
tried to find room in our house
for the consequence of choice
and still, we turn the page
i am just here
on the edge of middle age
