One Day You Will Wake Up – Written May 2004 (Aged 29)

One Day You Will Wake Up

one day –
you will wake up
and realise –
the whole world is insane
suburbia dreaming
cannot just apportion blame
though there is a bubble
it is not that well kept
one day, from your semi detached –
you will see the starving on your doorstep
and there will be unrest
in the well trimmed hedge
all the worlds ills
coming back to haunt us
we just cannot say,
it is them and not us
we are all responsible
remember, that all dreams can rust
one day –
you will wake up
and realise that you have really awoken
and your neatly painted life
will be entirely shaken

James Garratt – May 2004
