New Found Pitch

i like this
this new found pitch
it,
flatters my strengths
and consoles my weaknesses
i hunger for this,
the smile,
the joke,
a twinkle in the eye
but this is a different thing
there is no toll
even so,
maybe i am still not free
i like this
i am not making decisions
for other lives
and other souls
which is good because i am bust
trying not to score own goals
and this winter coat
hardly helps me float
i like this,
though.
i am not sure others will
i am taking back
and that is how i feel
protecting myself from attack
