Teaching – Written Tuesday 15th February 1994 and October 1994 (Aged 18/19)

life is a teacher
it teaches many things
some you would rather not learn
but then you do
you know, you are better off out of it
i have been hurt
but i have learnt
a little bit of my fantasy world
has melted
and it’s been under replaced
with a little hard reality
which i needed
so i do not get hurt again
so i do not have to be in pain
it is strange, you ripped me up
but in a way, i am a better for it
change creeps quietly
you have dissolved a little of my naivety
and like it not,
you have got to be tough
to survive in this world
because if you are naïve
you will always be hurt
by things you would rather not believe
you should know all sorts of people
because very few
are like what you expect
and even less are like you
life can be bad, always seeping
but it is always there, always teaching
