Sunday Lunch – Written May 2009 (Aged 34)

Sunday Lunch

ultimately they are bankrupt
because, they pass judgement –
on my family relationships
yet, theirs are just the same
the middle class niceness
hangs from the frame
that sunday lunch
hardly eaten with gusto
but eaten all the same
there is no real talking
just in case people look to blame
but those hurdles –
remain just the same
a father who left –
leaving gaps and holes never filled
a stepdad or stepdad’s
equally bankrupt and lacking any will
the one child actively wanted
the other just left to simmer
watching as love became aborted
you create a script
any psychological script you want
underneath we are all the same
it is just the outside which is different
