Slowly The Lights Are Being Turned Off – Written Tuesday 27th December 2011 (Aged 36)

Slowly The Lights Are Being Turned Off

you have always been mum
your imperfections clear
your love felt
when as a child, you held me near
and this piece –
like my memories
perhaps i will never share
and in a fashion of unusual care
we were both raised together
but it was a different experience we shared
you have always been mum
and my love is no less
but dizzy expectation and grandiose heights
now depart –
and slowly, they turn off the lights
one by one
the experience of life for us –
when we were young
your own pain and suffering
then, so unsung
had we realised, that for so long
your own contentment had never begun
you have always been mum
and now, when it is so hard for us to look
we all write this final chapter
and it will be so hard to close the book
