The Drain
down the drain in toy town
a tax exile on cartoon street
badly animated handshakes
for those that you meet
especially in coffee filled streets
down in the drain in your close
a tax exile on life’s boulevard
you thought love was easy
but it was always a game of cards
down the drain in toy town
where big ears are an asset
and not a reason to be down
down the drain in toy town
where toy bands have toy drums
and they make toy sounds
far away from sherlock holmes
and those baskerville hounds
down the drain in your kitchen
where last nights stained cups
do not feel like first place
you wash up the wooden space
and you feel,
the tears slide down your face
down the drain in toy town
a glittering career in pencil
and colour,
that must never go over the lines
day after day of heart failure
and days of collecting stale time
