Pebble on a Beach – Written Friday 19th August 2011 (Aged 36)

Pebble on a Beach

they said to me,
i realise i am not the only pebble on the beach
and in that moment,
i realised that it’s easy to become out of reach
that life has unfortunate lessons
lessons which can really teach
and i realised that reality is not only one person
but often, it is out of reach

they said to me,
i realise i am not the only pebble on the beach
i am not the only one washed up on the shore
i am mingling with others
trampled upon by the crab’s delicate claw
and i thought, is that what we all are
just pebbles fighting off the waves as they crash into us
under feet and under sun

they said to me,
i realise i am not the only pebble on the beach
i am not the only one,
and i know that is true because i feel it too
life is this significant beast
on the experiences it dishes out we try to feast
and i know,
i am not the only pebble on the beach
