How Many Times – Written Monday 28th November 2005 (Aged 30)

How Many Times

how many times have we been here
and how many chances,
have been given?
and how many times have you asked for,
love, closeness and attention
and how many times have you thrown it away?
how many times did we find the bridge
yet unable to cross,
trapped by the past
ruled by an irrational fear,
fearing the future,
night-time somehow always near
and us, unable to break those rusty chains
you have turned the past,
into a fortified fence
but the need never goes away
how many times have we been here
i just can’t go on with this anymore
this kind of hurt cannot happen
your actions have left me completely floored
