Sympathy Is a Drug – Written Monday 28th November 2005 (Aged 30)

Sympathy Is a Drug

sympathy is a drug
which for some,
is never enough
making up stories,
aching for a touch
not so much starved of oxygen
more like love

sympathy is a drug
how far will they take it?
pretending that those around them
are somehow ill,
makes themselves a martyr
because they are clearly not well
it is sick,
and it is degrading
what kind of self-respect,
has been escaping?

sympathy is a drug
of which,
some will always need
they are mentally unstable
their mind must be in bits
but is seems they are unable
to go without their sympathy fix

James Garratt – Monday 28th November 2005
