Ball of String – Written Tuesday 23rd May 2023 (Aged 48)

Ball of String

getting older –
has just given me more time –
to unravel my ball of string
sit through my broken bits
but, where to begin?
and i will try to explain
that there were caregivers
and their actions broke my brain
or least some of its parts
they took me to madness
instead of taking me into their hearts

getting older –
has allowed me to pick up the pieces
but madness still runs around
and it lives with long term leases
occupying us,
like a protester chained to our road
fighting for some cause
but there we were,
young and trying to move forwards
and none of this was explained
there were caregivers
and their actions broke my brain
or at least some of its parts
they forgot to offer me security
in their bear pit of tearing each other apart

  1. Oh wow, this is so raw and vulnerable. That last line throws a punch… what a finish. The repetition drives the hurt home… the suffering you had to endure… the coldness you had to stand, instead of feeling secure and loved.
I am sorry you had to go through that… but things like these make us who we are. Complete… with all the nooks & crannies… with the broken bits, not really fitting anymore… but if we are lucky, we learn to tie them together & enjoy what we could salvage and build from it. 🙂

    1. Thank you it’s called Ball of String because the idea is that it’s almost meaningless. We have a saying where something is hard to define, you say, well how long is a piece of string…. That is the point of ball of string as well as constantly unravelling something. It’s the magnifying glass again and linking it in with coping or perceived not coping. It’s quite rough in writing style as well.
