I Have Never Been One of the Cool Kids

i have never been one of the cool kids
even when i have been first
opinions not on trend
find me a fashionable friend
a group to support
a cause i can mend
someone who needs a shoulder
or an ear to lend
that is where i am at
never quite the newest things
or able to pull something out of the hat
never the top scorer
or ideas straight off the bat
overlooked and to one side
there i am, without the treasure map
i have never been one of the cool kids
