My Favourite Chair
i want to look inside somewhere
and find my favourite chair
i want to walk into a place
and feel right at home
because most relationships i enter
just leave me feeling alone
i want to open the front door
and see my favourite food
i want to look at the bookshelves
and see some of my favourite books
i want to walk inside,
and not feel like a visitor
i don’t want to be fumbling –
to turn on the fire
just because i feel so cold
most relationships i enter
just leave me feeling old
but i want to be left feeling better
i just want to be accepted
i do not want to be an intrusion
and please let the relationship be real
not one of those drastic illusions
because most relationships i enter
appear to be a cacophony of confusion
please, let someone i love be there
let me walk into a beautiful house
and let me find my favourite chair
