It Was My Awful

please do not presume
to tell me how it was
when i was a child
after all you were not there
so please –
do not presume –
under the guise that you care
aspects –
of my childhood were awful
and it is an ‘awful’ –
that i understand
so do not take stinging nettles
and then hold my hand
do not presume –
i would like you to back away
after all, i have been honest
and told you my reasons
if you would like me
then you should ask
please do not presume
because you do not know
and you could never know
